Blog Post #5

My early experiences using twitter have been largely uneventful. So far, I’ve interacted primarily with my classmates and with several education-based accounts. It’s been beneficial to see my classmates’ tweets, so I can see other versions of class projects like the PLN diagram and the newsletter. I’ve had some difficulty figuring out how to use the live chats on twitter, but I believe once I figure it out, it will be a useful tool in my future career, as I will be able to connect with educators across the country.

The digital divide is the disparity in technology access. This impacts student success because if one student does not have the same level of access to technology that the other does, then that child will not perform as well, regardless of intellect or skill level. As a teacher, I may have students that don’t have reliable access to the internet or to a computer. If this occurs, I will need to change the amount of digital work I assign for homework, or make an option for computer work to be done on a worksheet printed at school.

In my future classroom, I would like to implement google docs. I think this is a useful tool for students to learn, because it allows for collaboration, which students also need to improve at. Additionally, I would like to implement Microsoft Office in my classroom. I think Microsoft is important software to know how to use throughout one’s life, and if students were more familiar with it early on, they will be better equipped to use it later in life.

  1. Hi Carolina! I love that you are already planning ways to get around students’ lack of technology access. Also, you make a good point about Google Docs allowing students to develop skills in collaboration and teamwork. I generally prefer Microsoft Word, but now I see the appeal of Google Docs as a multipurpose educational tool, too!

  2. Thank you for being so transparent about your difficult time with Twitter because I have also been having problems understanding how to use it! I also haven't really branched out on Twitter, I prefer to use other versions of social media and rely on my previous teachers as a resource. There's a whole teacher Tik Tok (it's honestly a little bit cringe but the digital immigrants are trying) that has a lot of resources for teachers that I prefer to scroll through. Love your post! :)

  3. Hi Carolina! Great response! I appreciate your honesty in regards to navigating Twitter, as I have had some difficulties operating some educational technologies. I also really enjoyed reading about how you plan to implement Google Docs. This tool has been so helpful for me in completing school assignments. I look forward to reading more of your thoughts!
