As a teacher, I think I would use surveys for daily classroom functions. I plan on teaching a second grade class, so surveys might be useful to record things like which students are buying their lunch and which are bringing their own. Because I plan to teach a younger grade,  I don't think I would use surveys often for course material. For younger students, I think surveys may be more difficult to effectively employ in a class.      After looking through my classmates’ blogs, I really liked seeing their powerpoints for Assignment 5. This assignment allowed for a lot of creativity, and I liked seeing how everyone formatted their powerpoint to become interactive with their students. I also found it interesting to read about people’s opinions on distance learning. It was really interesting to read about their experiences with distance learning and compare it with my own.       The next technology-related skill i would like ...

Overall, I've had a fairly positive experience as a distance learner. I like how I can do all of my classes from my room, and how all of the resources for my classes can be found on Canvas. I don't like how limited group collaboration is in distance learning, as I've always found it easier to work on group projects when the group is able to meet in person. As a teacher, I think I could improve my students’ experience as distance learners by finding ways to vary the classroom routine, as it can get boring for students to do the same format for every assignment.      Open educational resources are copyrighted materials that are open to the public to be used for educational purposes. Educators are allowed to display, alter, or recreate these resources. For example, I found an open educational resource for language arts: https://www.oercommons.org/courseware/lesson/70091/overview . This resource is an article about why flamingos are pink, and it includes discussion quest...

After working on the Web Design assignment, I feel like I gained a lot of new skills, as I hadn’t designed a web page before. I learned how to navigate website creation platforms like weebly. I also learned how to create a Google calendar and how to embed it. I liked this assignment because it helped me learn the skills necessary to design a website, and also allowed for some creativity in the design. I can use the skills I learned to develop a website for my own classroom when I work as a teacher later on. Here’s the link to my website: https://englishclass2m.weebly.com/      After working with Diigo, I now have a better understanding of how to navigate the site. This site might be useful in my classroom, as I could use it for my students’ group projects, as a site for my students to collaborate on. With team members, I can collaborate on projects using Diigo as the platform to put our shared work. As an individual professional, I can improve m...

I looked up the website of my old elementary school, St. Joseph’s . While I was a student there, I had access to specific class pages, but that information is not available publicly. Instead, I was able to find overviews of each school subject, such as art or math. This information allowed me to get a basic understanding of the subjects at St. Joseph’s, without violating the privacy of the teachers or students.      In my future career, I can see myself using technology very frequently. By the time I begin teaching, I expect my students will be more comfortable using forms of technology that i did not grow up using, so I believe i will need a lot of experience with technology to stay current. Specifically, I think I will utilize google classroom as a teacher. I think it is a convenient tool because my students will be able to connect it to a gmail account, so the majority of class technology can be accessed through google (ie. google docs, google...

My initial experience with Diigo went fairly well. The functions I had to use on it to complete the assignment were straightforward and easy to follow. I liked that Diigo enables interaction between members of different classes, as this allows me to see new perspectives on class materials. Overall, I think Diigo is a useful supplementary tool in this class, although I don't think it would be helpful as the main form of communication in class. Before this class, I had never used a blog before, so I definitely had a bit of a learning curve. Overall, I’ve found that I like using a blog. It’s a very easy way to see all of the different things I’ve learned and written about in class, and a very helpful way to see the perspectives of my classmates. During the blogging process, I’ve learned more about formatting my blog, as well as how to comment on others’ blogs. A Web 2.0 tool that I would like to use in my classroom later on is Quizlet . This tool is a website that allows students to...

My early experiences using twitter have been largely uneventful. So far, I’ve interacted primarily with my classmates and with several education-based accounts. It’s been beneficial to see my classmates’ tweets, so I can see other versions of class projects like the PLN diagram and the newsletter. I’ve had some difficulty figuring out how to use the live chats on twitter, but I believe once I figure it out, it will be a useful tool in my future career, as I will be able to connect with educators across the country.      The digital divide is the disparity in technology access. This impacts student success because if one student does not have the same level of access to technology that the other does, then that child will not perform as well, regardless of intellect or skill level. As a teacher, I may have students that don’t have reliable access to the internet or to a computer. If this occurs, I will need to change the amount of digital work I assign for homewor...

For second graders, standard LAFS.2.SL.1.2 require students to “Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media”. I took this to mean that students need to be able to retell the main point of a story presented in various modes. Based on my current skills, I do not feel prepared to implement this standard. I don’t think I have a very accurate gauge of a second-grader’s current skill level in ELA. To implement this standard, I believe I would need to learn a bit more about child development.      I looked through resources that a teacher of second-grade science would use. I found a resource that details a lesson plan to teach students about ecosystems in the Everglades. The resource included a plan for a play the students could act out, along with pdfs of relevant material and visuals for the play and the lesson. I might use this in a classroom if the Everglade ecosystem was a subject I was very u...
